AdWords

Well, I did it. I started my Google AdWords campaign. Eeek! A little scary to be putting even more money into a business that hasn't generated any money yet, but what is it they say about spending money to make money? I've already invested in inventory, a domain name, business licenses and so much more, but what good would it do without advertising; right? So, I figured the best place to advertise an online business is online. Hence, my Google AdWords. Of course, I realize I'm running with the big dogs and my little budget probably won't get me much showing, but you've got to start somewhere. So, it's official...if you search for Batman Birthday or Disney Princess Birthday, I just might show up in your sponsored listings. How cool?!?!?!? Time to get back to tweaking the site to make it just right for shopping.

So, how about the rest of you that are attempting online businesses? Are you advertising? Online or other? Come let's share our growing pains together.

An Adventurous Beginning

So many firsts. My first blog, my first attempt at an online business and soon to be the first of a new year. I hope to share my adventure of starting an online business as well as birthday ideas and suggestions. I hope you will come along for the ride!!

It's already been an adventure...getting setup with business licenses, getting approved to be a reseller for various manufacturers, registering a domain and figuring out how to build the site. After all that, I still feel like I'm just beginning. I've got to figure out how to drive traffic to the site, calculate shipping, take payments (besides PayPal) and so much more!

It seemed like such a simple idea at the beginning. Take something I love to do and turn it into a business, right? I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE birthdays! Not mine, of course, ;o) but my children's birthdays. I have four little boys, and it gives me such joy to plan fun birthdays for them. So many ideas! I love for our birthdays to have a theme and the theme runs through everything, from costumes or original t-shirts to crafts & activities to the food we eat. So, why not take on the task of starting a birthday business? Well, hopefully, I will look back and say, why not indeed? But I'm not there yet. The site, Treasured Birthdays,is officially launched, but still has so much work to be done. It needs fine tuning for sure. This week I am working on adding freight calculations by the Postal Service. I've already encountered snags there, but I will try to keep at it.

So, how about you? Any of you starting a business? Care to share your experiences, your frustrations, your successes! Let's take the journey together!
